DK Books has been a source of official LEGO books since 1999, when it published The Ultimate LEGO Book. Since then, DK’s relationship with LEGO has expanded, and with it, Dk”s book selection has broadened. Separate LEGO themes have their own books, including LEGO Ninjago. BrickJournal got to review one of their upcoming books.
The LEGO Ninjago Visual Dictionary New Edition (there were two previous editions that have been released) is a updated guide to the theme, with information on the characters, places, and vehicles that make up this universe. Set information is also in the book, but the book is a general narrative of the theme. In other words, there are no specific set breakdowns in photos – the items in a set will be throughout the book with a data box for the set, its number and number of parts and minifigures.

For those just entering the LEGO Ninjago world, this is a great tour book. For those familiar with the theme, it is a good reference source. Information from the LEGO Ninjago movie and the LEGO Ninjago TV show is included in the book. Adult builders will enjoy seeing the beautiful photos and the design process behind creating the LEGO Ninjago sets. Collectors will love the minifigure gallery, which shows every LEGO Ninjago figure that has been produced to the present.

Having so much information can lead to a very dry book, but DK solves this problem by introducing the characters first, as opposed to the sets. By getting the characters out first, the reader gets taken into the narrative of LEGO Ninjago and its underlying conflict. The sets are touched on in a timeline at the beginning of the book and in the data boxes through the book, but not spotlighted like the characters themselves.

The LEGO Ninjago Visual Dictionary New Edition would be a great addition to anyone interested in LEGO – there is enough information for anyone with a passing interest in the company to look and learn something about the theme, the media behind theme, and even the design of the theme. There’s also an exclusive LEGO minifigure in the book – Teen Wu! Who is he?

Guess you’ll have to get the book to find out!

The book will be released on September 10, 2019, and you can pre-order it from:
